Church community collects and distributes thrifty goods

It just so happened, that the place where we stopped to refill our H2O bottles, was a car shop and thrift store with spare beds for tiresome travelers. Serendipity also allowed us a safe place to sleep during one of the windiest storms, with folks whose life work is emblematic  of our journey. Ron and his wife are members of the local church and they collect donations of used goods, clothes, mattresses (J), toys, kitchen utensils and not only distribute them to the people in Iowa and other Southern families in need, but personally truck items down to the Mexican side of the border once a year. It is a huge event in the small border town, where many families in Mexico have been subjected to working in outsourced factories and deal with crime and drugs daily. When members from the church lay out everything they have carted from Humeston, families line up to receive bags of necessities, a new pair of shoes for the year. For many families, these are the only things society provides for them during the entire year. Thank you for your work.
