American Gothic and the discovery of Eldon, Iowa

Eldon, Iowa, town of around 1,000, happened to be on our way, and happened to be the home of a quaint little house, with stark, Gothic windows, which inspired Grant Wood to paint American Gothic 1930.

We thought there was some great historical significance, but actually, much of the image is fabricated…in that the scene never took place. The two individuals were never together, never in front of the house. The best thing is that you can dress us like the painting and pretend you were really there!!
